In York County, Maine there is a city named Biddeford. It is the largest city in York County with a population of over 20,000 people. Biddeford is a great vacation spot because of the easy access to major water ways. It is located on a 15 mile strip of the Saco River and along the Atlantic coastline. It is also recognized as one of the oldest cities in New England as recorded on The Pilgrim Monument. Today the city is one of the fastest growing commercial centers because of its seaside location. Biddeford is the home of the University of New England, which is quickly growing popularity on the east coast. Biddeford holds the annual festival known as the La Kermesse Franco-Americaine Festival and boasts a large variety of attractions for all travelers. The city is lined with public beaches and located in the historic downtown location is the McArthur Library and the City Theater for the Performing Arts. A well-known historical monument called the North Dam Mill is an example of the booming tourist attractions as it now offers visitors cultural events, restaurants and shopping opportunities. Another sight not to miss on your visit to Biddeford is the Wood Island Light. It is a lighthouse that is positioned about a mile off of the shore of Biddeford Pool.
