About Augusta
Augusta is the beautiful capital city of this far north-eastern state of the United States. Maine, home to breathtaking scenery, lush greenery, and beautiful ocean views, boasts its main population in Augusta with approximately 25,000 people. Located on the Kennebec River, Augusta was first settled in 1629 as a trading post, and was then known as Cushnoc. However, in 1797, the name was changed to Augusta, and the land eventually became a city in 1849. This city, through the years, has been known for many industrial avenues ranging from agriculture and cotton mills to publishing and shipping. Residents of Augusta are contented with an excellent local government as well as several first-rate schools, the University of Maine at Augusta, the Bicentennial Nature Park, the Bureau of Child Care, and Lithgow Public Library, among other things. The library and the civic center offer a good range of community events as well. Augusta also offers a well-rounded list of shopping and restaurants, from national chains to local specialities. Just about an hour from the ocean, Augusta is the perfect residential and business location not far from a relaxing, beautiful day away. Even in the midst of this city, the beautiful old buildings and the quiet Kennebec River offer a wonderful atmosphere which displays the character of Maine.
